Tis the season for icy cold Smoothies, y’all! At the risk of sounding super obvious, it’s HOT here in Texas! Our favorite way to cool down is with something icy, refreshing and cold. Whether breakfast or snack, in a glass, bowl, or atop a frozen popsicle stick, at our house, we serve Summer Smoothies!
One of our favorite things about professionally sharing our culinary creations is getting to know the people behind the foods we enjoy. It is such a pleasure to support our fellow GOTEXAN members, our local specialty shops, farmers market vendors and members of H-E-B’s Quest for Texas Best Community. This community of friends with family food businesses like ours inspire and nourish us. When we return home from working alongside our foodie biz friends, we always come home with big smiles and lots of wonderful stories about the beautiful produce and tasty products they share with us. It is truly a blessing to get to know the farmers and makers behind so many of our favorite foods.
The thing is, though, we have A LOT of awesome foodie biz friends so we come home with A LOT of food, most of it, fresh out of the ground! One of our favorite ways to appreciate these garden delights is by having all manner of kitchen fun creating refreshing summer smoothies. It is our go-to way to revel in all that goodness in a healthy and delicious way!
One of the first things we do after washing and prepping our fruits and veggies, is we break out our blender. We use a Vitamix, and I am happy to provide the following unsolicited, unpaid, endorsement, because, y’all! So. many. added. bonuses such as an actual smoothie setting, not to mention a great website with lots of awesome smoothie recipes, tips and tricks! It’s a great jumping off point on your way to creating your favorite unique blends!
We love to elevate our red and green veggie smoothies to the next level by incorporating our favorite gourmet roasted vegetable salsas. In our fruit smoothies, a Mango Pineapple Habanero boost is out of this world! Our MPH Smoothie Recipe is one of our favorite summer treats. I like to take whatever diced fruit and smoothie mix leftover and freeze it. Sometimes, I use popsicle molds and sometimes I make ice-cubes. They are great snacks and fabulous smoothie starters for another day. Like I said, whether in a glass, bowl, or atop a frozen popsicle stick, nothing says Summer is Served like an icy cold summer smoothie!
